My Students

"Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals." ~Martin Luther King, Jr

My school is a challenging campus as we draw from a variety of socioeconomic and ethnically diverse groups.

On my campus, there are a large number of students who will be first-time college-bound students, and some of them first-time high school graduates in their families! What a tribute to their families! My students have the drive to learn, to achieve, and to succeed enough to get them into college. All they need to succeed is dedication along with a guide to help them learn how to study, how to be proud of their work and have confidence in themselves!

My Project

Sewing is a dying art that few schools are able to offer. The materials I am asking for in this project, including scissors, magnetic bowls and two ironing boards, will be a great start for our brand new sewing class! During our class, students will begin to practice making different items including home decor items, clothing items and basic alterations and mending. These are skills that will serve them well during their entire lifetime.

As their teacher, I would like to be able to provide as many opportunities and skills my students that will be able to use once they are adults.

The scissors will be used to cut out materials that will be needed to complete projects. The magnetic bowls will be used to hold the straight pins needed to hold the fabric together while sewing the projects. The ironing boards are necessary in order to iron the project after they have been sewn together.

The skill of sewing is something that every person should know. It allows you to repair your own clothes and make basic alterations. I hope that this class could inspire one of my students to be the next great fashion designer.
