My students need a variety of opportunities to experience and learn reading skills. One way is with the Radius Audio Learning System, headphones and learning card sets.

My Students
Have you ever struggled with learning how to read? The English alphabet system is not so easy. So many sounds and they don't all play by the rules. Add in the fact that you're 5 and you may have a developmental delay, and you have a recipe for childhood stress and frustration
My class is a sample of what the world is like.
Imagine shopping in your favorite department store. There's the really smart one helping you find what you need. Then there's the everyday kids plugging away at the work at hand. And then there's the kids that need support from an understanding and compassionate boss in order to succeed in the workforce. In my kindergarten inclusion class, we have a little bit of everything. My co-teacher and I are the bosses who provide every ounce of compassion, consistency, challenge and scaffolding to all. Our children are fortunate to have each other to learn from. Each individual has something to offer the world. Our mission is to teach every child on his or her level and provide opportunities for development to be active members of society.
My Project
As teachers, we strive to be the best teachers we can be. We come into work early, we stay late, we have lunch with our students so we can get to know them better, we take home hours of extra work that we just couldn't find time for on our break. We search the Internet on our down time for unique and novel ideas to teach new information. But, Pinterest can get us only so far and we need some alternatives. The Radius Learning system is an interactive cd system. Up to 4 students can use this at a time. With adult direction, it can be a successful teaching tool for individuals or small groups. The technology is exciting for students to use, the headphones allow the group to work quietly without interrupting the rest of the class. The system offers a new way for students to learn. The more variety we can offer and novelty in teaching strategies, the better we may reach our students' differing abilities to learn and retain information.
This project is important to my students to help them find new ways to connect letters and sounds to the framework of reading.
Learning to read is not always easy for students with disabilities. Giving them alternate opportunities to learn information is one way teachers can provide support. I am always looking for new ways to capture a child's attention and help them discover the love of reading. One hurdle is learning the basics.
