When I first met the students in the dual language program, I think that it is fair to say that my mind was blown. Never in my previous experiences had I worked in a school where ALL students were given the opportunity to speak Spanish and English, which meant that I had African American, Latino and White students all engaging together during the lesson in beautiful Spanish. What a gift for our students! Their parents made the decision to give them the gift of bi-literacy and the opportunity to actively engage in an increasingly globalized world!
Our students' parents have taken a leap by providing their children with a unique and exceptional educational opportunity by giving them with the gift of bilingualism.
My Project
Armchairs allow students to sit in a comfortable place to sit while in the classroom library. During math and readers workshop, students choose a place to read books or work independently. Currently I do not have enough chairs for a small group of students to sit on while they are working so some end up sitting on the tile floor while the others sit in chairs. Making sure students are comfortable motivates them to read and work independently.
By enabling students to choose their place to sit, they are able to take ownership of their learning and how they best learn.
Also, who doesn't like a special, cozy place to read and work?
The Melissa & Doug Child’s Armchairs that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. By giving students a special place to read and work, it elevates the act of reading and honors the students' hard work.
I have seen how choice can positively affect my students' work, and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
