My students need a comfy rug in their library area for independent and group reading.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Find the perfect book, the perfect space and the perfect partner. Immerse yourself in the story and have fun! Independent reading is a daily activity in my classroom. Students read by themselves, in groups and in pairs. Our carpet space is used for independent reading and so much more!
My students are natural born scientists, curious about the world around them, are always asking questions, and love to read books!
They are eager to learn and their brains are sponges that absorb any and all information given to them. Everything is a potential investigation/experiment to them, so I strive to provide my students with as many learning and project based opportunities as possible. Whenever possible I enhance the school curriculum to build on my students' intrinsic motivation to learn more. Now is a prime time to instill a lifetime love of reading! We are a Title 1 school, but because of our size, funding levels are not as high as other schools that have higher enrollments. Also, many of our students do not have the support or resources available for one-on-one attention to reading and literacy. Therefore, I try to provide as much varied interaction with reading and literature as possible.
My Project
My classroom is always buzzing with activity! Students are at Science, Math or Literacy learning centers around the room, partner reading in our literacy garden right outside our classroom or working in groups on an independent project at classroom tables. Every space is utilized for learning! However, before all of this begins, my students and I come together as a class to go over the goals of the day, or engage in a whole group lesson/activity.
The carpet requested in this proposal will serve as a place where the whole class can receive instruction, debrief an activity or work in a small group with the teacher. It will also be the focal point of our library center where students go for independent quiet reading and give us an area to move and groove when students work hard to earn some of our great movement activities. It will make such an impact in our everyday routine and create a welcoming area for all students to learn.
Countless research studies have shown that the more a child reads, the better reader the child becomes.
I believe that giving the children a fun place to read will encourage them to read more often, thus making them a reader for life! Having a bright, beautiful carpet for us to meet as our classroom family and with independent partners will be the perfect addition to our classroom.
