it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are wonderful NYC school kids on a large campus made up of six individual schools. This year, several of our schools are focused on increasing independent reading and students have been visiting the library frequently to find great books and have silent reading time. The result is many students visiting the library outside of class during lunch and other free periods. We have a beautiful library that looks more like a college library, but I am looking to make this space more teen friendly. The students themselves have requested bean bag chairs, and I would love to make their voices heard and provide this seating option for reading.
In addition to differentiated seating for reading, our library is often a calm from the storm of high school for some students.
Less formal seating options will lend itself to students seeing the library as a third space and a safe place where they can take a minute to breathe and destress!
