My Students

I teach 6th grade English language arts in a small town in South Carolina that has a large ESOL population and students who come from low-income households. Since my students are just starting middle school, they go through a lot of changes throughout the year. They move from the elementary mindset to the independence of middle school. They have to learn how to take control of their learning and manage their time wisely. They also need to become responsible, independent critical thinkers, who take pride in their learning. My students are creative, inspiring, and never cease to amaze me!

I am blessed to have the privilege to inspire my students to find a love for reading and writing, and I am honored to be part of the start of their middle school journey!

My Project

I teach 6th grade English language arts, so it is important for my students to read independently on a daily basis.

It is hard for some of my students to focus on reading because they are so uncomfortable in the standard classroom desks.

These plush pillows and cushions will help my students relax and be comfortable in their reading spots! They will motivate students to increase their reading stamina and help them focus on the task at hand. I know this project will help my middle schoolers improve their reading scores because they will find joy in reading and become lifelong learners!
