Comfy Kinders: Relaxing Spot After Returning from Distance Learning
Help me give my students a cozy, relaxing and inviting space in our classroom library where they can feel safe after returning from virtual learning. This includes new comfortable chairs and new books.
My kindergartners are dedicated and avid little international learners. They come from all points of the earth. Some students are even tri-lingual. Many students come directly from their country or origin (such as China, Iran, Germany, Russia, Pakistan, Japan, France, Turkey, India, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and many, many more). Many students come directly to my class without knowing any English.
My kindergartners eagerly enter school for the first time as global learners that share a love and commitment to learning, ESPECIALLY gaining the confidence to learn how to read.
My Project
With new chairs, my kindergartners will be able to relax in the class library during small group/daily 5 rotations, independent reading and reading with a friend. Students will be able to self select new books of interest, which creates a foundation and love for reading. The students will use these new books for independent reading, read to a partner, also classroom assignments such as finding specific letters inside the books, sight words, spelling patterns, and other word work activities. Lastly, I will be using these books for enjoyable read alouds.
With new library chairs and new books, the students will return to school after virtual learning with a cozy, relaxing, safe and inviting classroom.
