Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students grades 7-12 students have encountered a variety of life experiences. All of our students at JJC have talents and strengths but need to focus their time in school and on preparing for life after high school. Some students are placed in group homes or foster homes. When released there is school placement, information about needs and assets for students and families transitioning from JJC to school sites. I work with each student going to Oakland Unified Schools individually to help them communicate about their personal goals and visions for their futures.
My Project
The backpack and supplies will be the main source of personal storage for students going to a group or foster home. Many do not have the basic tools to begin school or be in a new environment upon release from Juvenile Hall.
Students will feel positive in having the proper tools to be able to focus on adjusting to a new home and school.
By donating a backpack, school supplies and snacks you will help to relieve stress of not being prepared for next steps in life. Ultimately this will help to improve and increase student attention and focus and increase their academic achievement.
More than half of students from low‑income households
