Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have some amazing little six year olds. I am teaching 1st grade in a very low income area. My students are not given many opportunities to have learning experiences outside of school. We are located in Phoenix, Arizona and we have many English language learners.
My students must work incredibly hard to overcome challenges such as language barriers, reading difficulties, and lack of resources.
Although our children come to school with little, they bring so much kindness and willingness to learn. I feel so lucky to be with these students because of their enthusiasm and choice to do better.
My Project
My students do not get many opportunities to read books at home. My goal is to instill a love for reading in my classroom. I would love to have a special place for my students to sit while they read their books.
These bean bags will give my kiddos a more inviting place to enjoy their books rather than a chair at their desk.
I want my students to feel safe and comfortable in my classroom. It is important to me that I do everything I can to encourage them to be readers.
