This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a first-grade teacher, I believe that every child deserves a comfortable, safe, and engaging environment where they can thrive. One essential piece of this environment is a classroom rug with visual sit spots. This rug will transform our learning space into a more organized and inviting area for my students to gather for lessons, group work, and story time.
In our classroom, seating can be a challenge, especially when we come together for important learning moments.
With a colorful rug that has designated sit spots, my students will be able to have their own space, while still being able to engage and collaborate as a class. The visual sit spots will help create a sense of ownership and responsibility, promoting a sense of community and focus during our group activities.
A rug like this will also provide a cozy area for independent reading and hands-on learning activities. It will become a place where my students can relax, reflect, and get excited about the learning journey ahead.
How this will help:
Organization: The visual sit spots will help my first graders stay organized and focused during lessons, preventing distractions from fidgeting or moving around too much.
Engagement: Having a dedicated, comfortable space for group activities will increase student participation and foster collaboration.
Community-building: The designated spots on the rug will help instill a sense of community, as students will learn to respect personal space while working together.
