My Students
Remember when you discovered your love of reading? I would like to create a warm and inviting area in our classroom where my students can discover a love of literature from a young age.
My students attend an integrated preschool classroom.
I service students with a wide range of abilities. The children face various challenges such as language delays, global developmental delays and autism. The classroom is mixed age. They are enthusiastic and love to learn and explore our classroom. They are eager to learn in a hands on manner. We use a total communication approach with sign language, visuals and speech.
My Project
I am requesting a listening center kit, bean bag chairs, book boxes and a floor pillow to create a cozy reading center. The reading center supplies will allow preschoolers to independently browse books directly related to their unit of study. I will create visuals for each book box to give non-readers more independence in the book center. Students will independently be able to listen to theme related stories and practice pre-reading skills. It will create a comfortable and cozy learning environment.
We have had new fire regulations that forced me to donate our old reading center chairs to another school because they did not have the appropriate fire tags.
I would like to replace the chairs and materials in our reading center to bring it back to life again. Instilling a love of literature at the preschool age sets students up for literacy success in the future. These materials will last for years to come and have the potential to impact the success of hundreds of students.
