My Students

Have you ever just looked at your rug and said to yourself "Eww! It is time for a new one!" That is what happened to us this year! Our classroom rug has just seen one too many years in Pre-K.

We are an inner city Pre-K class with 18 students located next to the local projects surrounded by a much more diverse neighborhood.

We are a very diverse group of children. Our school is a magnet school with a museum education theme. This means we do A LOT of trips to museums and other places that help us explore the arts and aesthetic education. We are a Title 1 school with 85% of our students receiving some kind of assistance.

My Project

In early childhood education most lessons are taught on the rug. The children sit in a comfortable, warm, and inviting area during discussions or demonstrations instead of a cold hard floor. A good early childhood rug provides colorful learning tools as well as a place to sit. This rug does just that. The alphabet and numbers provides the children with their own personal space to sit. It is also a kinesthetic learning map. We will be able to march around the alphabet and double check the colors. In early childhood we need things to be on our level. A nice comfy rug provides us with a way to lay on our tummies in a circle and view whatever is put in the center, like maybe a net full of butterflies!

We really need a new rug.

Our old one was no longer usable. It gives our class a comfortable place to sit when they learn. Everyone wants to be comfortable when they learn. The added colors, alphabet, and numbers on the rug will aid in our learning by being a kinesthetic learning tool that we can move around. Your donations will give us a much need material without dipping into our trips budget .
