My Students
As a kindergarten teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students come from very diverse backgrounds and many are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. For most of my students this will be their first school experience and regardless of their challenges and diverse backgrounds they are expected to meet standards and reach milestones. When a child enters my class, I want them to be comfortable, safe, loved, and love learning as much I love teaching.
My hope is for them to love and embrace learning as they begin their educational journey.
"At the end of the day people won't remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel." Maya Angelou
As I enter my 15 teaching year I have learned so much from the hundreds of children I have taught over the years, each one leaving a lasting impression. I've learned that without a certain comfort level that is warm, exciting, and engaging not all children will learn everything we expect them to learn and it is my job to make sure that happens.
My Project
My students need comfortable spots to read in our classroom. If you think about places you love to read it is rare that you imagine sitting up straight and tall at a desk, maybe on the beach, on a lounge chair, on the floor, and even in bed. In order to be great readers children should read for enjoyment and for learning, if we want them to enjoy themselves and learn they must be physically comfortable.
Your generous donations to this project will help to improve my students' reading stamina in order to strengthen fluency and comprehension as well as develop a love of reading.
By having different areas in our kindergarten classroom with comfortable seating my students will be motivated to practice what they've learned during independent reading. At an early age it is important for learners to experience reading as fun and not something that they are required to do but something they enjoy doing.
