This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are inquisitive, caring, and hard-working. Many come to school with difficult backgrounds and obstacles in their lives, which can be very challenging to leave at the door.
100% of the students in my school receive free breakfast and lunch.
19% are English Language Learners, and 16% are students with disabilities.
When my students enter the classroom each day, my hope is for them to feel completely comfortable and safe. I want to provide a supportive and nurturing environment, which is conducive to learning for every student. I strive to equip them with the tools to always make positive choices throughout every obstacle they face both now and in the future, and to always appreciate the importance of education.
My Project
Each morning my students arrive in the classroom and eat breakfast. While they're eating breakfast, we begin Morning Meeting and Positive Action. Ideally, Morning Meeting would happen on a carpet with the students sitting in a circle, however currently the students are sitting at their desks for this important time of the day.
By funding this project, you will help to provide my students with a comfortable carpet in the classroom that is ideal for creating a stronger sense of community during our meeting time.
In addition to Morning Meeting, our carpet will be utilized as a spot for whole group lessons, a comfortable independent reading place, and a great location for some of our learning centers.
