My Project
A comfy, cozy calm-down corner is essential for a TK classroom when developing social emotional skills. The goal for this project is to provide students with a safe space in order to develop self-regulation skills. TK students are four-year-olds with big emotions, whether they are angry, sad, nervous, anxious, or feeling sick. It is important for students to identify their emotions so that they can learn how to manage them.
A calm-down corner will make a difference in my students' learning by helping them learn to self-regulate their emotions.
I chose a cozy cube for this project because it is the perfect size for TKers and it will help drown out the stimulation of the classroom. The teddy bear will provide support and the emotional chips will help students identify their feelings. They will learn expectations of the calm-down corner and know that it is not a punishment, but a choice.
My students are special because they love school and their friends. Sometimes their big emotions are triggered from working and playing so closely together.
I believe that my students deserve a quiet corner that will give them the opportunity to find peace. My comfy, cozy calm-down corner will help my students learn how to manage their emotions and be less disruptive.
