My Project

Fostering a love for reading in 4th and 5th graders by creating a cozy reading nook in the upper elementary pod area.

A cozy reading nook holds tremendous potential for fostering a love for reading.

I would like to create a comfortable reading nook for our upper elementary pod (a common 4th and 5th-grade space). There are many reading corners in a primary teacher's classroom for reading, but often those areas and furniture become too small as our students become 4th and 5th graders. In the upper elementary classroom, space is needed for larger desks and tables and classrooms do not have extra room for these cozy reading nooks.

My vision for this new space is to appeal to a 9-11-year-old, to be located outside of the classroom in a common space, and to inspire a love for reading! This dedicated space would motivate students, and offer a comfortable alternative space providing a serene reading atmosphere. By offering comfortable seating, soft cushions, and warm lighting, these spaces invite students to settle in and immerse themselves in the joy of reading.
