Help me give my students flexible seating, dry erase boards, and kid friendly tablets to enhance their Math and STEM learning! Between my 46 students these items will make learning so much more fun!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Each year I have an amazing opportunity to meet and teach these incredible little humans. It never ceases to amaze me how much they grow throughout the school year. They all have so much personality, with different talents, interests and strengths.
The students that I have the privilege of teaching are some of the most humble people I have ever met.
My school is a Title I school, which means almost all of the children come from low income families. Many of them have little to no technology in their homes. Some of their parents cannot afford the school supplies we need. My students strive to be the best in all academic areas. Because of their unique ways of learning, it is essential to have various teaching tools. These children are eager to learn and be loved. To be the best teacher I can be I strive to teach them how to have fun while learning!
My school is also a STEM accredited school. My students love hands-on projects, experiments, using technology, and moving around during the lessons. These students come to school excited and love to get their hands on anything that will increase their learning.
My Project
There is no doubt that everyone knows how important education is. However, having fun while learning is just as important. With this funding students in my class will have a chance to express themselves by using white boards and comfy seating. I am a true believer that everyone learns differently. Some of my students have a hard time sitting in a chair all day. Having bean bags and stools will provide more comfort and less distractions. They currently write on their desks with dry erase markers, which they love. It makes them feel as though they can better express themselves and be more committed to the lesson.
In my class we have only FIVE computers.
The tablets will be an amazing opportunity for these children to explore and research their science experiments, play math games and not have to worry about rushing to get off the computer because of their limited time. I teach two classes, which is a total of forty-six students. I feel like my students learn best in small group rotations. When we break up into these groups the students rotate on our classroom computers. Being that there are only five computers, it gives each group only fifteen minutes on the computers. By the time the students sit down and login they have already wasted five minutes. Having these tablets will increase the time that they each have on the electronic devices and allow more students to be on a math game or electronic intervention strategy. I strongly feel that these items will enhance their learning by allowing them to be fully engaged.
