Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Title 1 High School, and our nearly 1,300 students come from a variety of backgrounds. The library is a sanctuary for many of our students, and they come for a warm and quiet place to read, play board games, work on group projects, and study.
I am happy to say that our students LOVE their library.
Our English learning students, our special needs students, and our AP & IB students all intermingle in the library. It is truly the heart of our campus.
A well-equipped library is a gift that all students deserve!
My Project
Our library furniture is old--1965 old--and we are ready to move into the 21st century! We are moving away from the traditional rows of classroom tables and chairs and would love to bring in some flexible, modular, and comfortable seating!
We want our students to feel welcomed and relaxed when they step into the library, and one way to make that happen is with functional and cozy reading spaces!
This project will provide us with a new seating zone, complete with soft modular seats that can be moved around easily. They will be placed in our Fiction section, a popular area for students that currently has only large classroom tables and rigid chairs.
