My Project

Over the past couple of years I have noticed my students are not as engaged with daily lessons, with their classwork or other students. I am looking to add some flexible seating to my classroom. Flexible seating in my 6th grade math classroom will enhance comfort, which I believe directly impacts my students' ability to focus and learn. When students are allowed to choose where they can sit, they can find a spot that best suits them. Feeling comfortable reduces distractions and helps students stay engaged during lessons and work time. 6th graders are in a transitional stage between elementary and middle school, having the freedom to select a comfortable spot will create a sense of ownership and independence. This will hopefully improve their confidence and participation in math.

Flexible seating not only provides comfort for students, it encourages collaboration and makes learning more fun.

I would like my students to be able to easily move into small groups for activities or problem-solving games. When students are able to collaborate it makes math more interactive and engaging. Independence is important because it helps students learn to make decisions about their learning and take pride in their learning. I would like my math classroom to represent a student-centered space where learning is fun, comfortable, effective and engaging.
