My students need a cozy place to sit and enjoy books in the library.
I work with students from pre-kindergarten to fifth grade.
We have a very diverse school in Brooklyn in which 50% of the students come from low income families. My students love to read, and they come every week to the library to learn to find books, to enjoy them, and to use them for research.
My Project
My students will use the cushions to sit and read during library visits. I see about four classes of children every day. They check out books, but I also plan activities to teach them how to use the resources in the library. Our library is the heart of our school. My students love to come and choose their favorite stories, but we need a comfortable place for them to sit and enjoy reading.
I want my library to be an inspiration for my students to enjoy reading and writing.
In order to make that a reality, I want to provide a library space where they can relax and feel comfortable.
