This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Think back on your own Kindergarten experience. Did you love coming to school, listening to stories, playing at recess or building with blocks? The magic of Kindergarten is not only gaining the skills required to be a 21st century learner but supporting our youngest learner with developing the executive functioning skills children need to thrive. The guided inquiry and magic of play will create lifelong learners who can collaborate and take risks. Research shows students who experience a quality early childhood education, have stronger problem-solving skills, and the social-emotional skills needed to succeed in today’s job market. When children are nurtured as well as taught to read, write, and think critically, their growth can be endless. I love teaching Kindergarten at a public elementary school in Los Angeles, CA.
Our students come from a low socioeconomic background: all students qualify for Free/Reduced-price lunch, and the majority of the students are English Learners.
However, statistics don’t tell the whole story. My students are inquisitive, hard-working, and caring. They will count, read, write but most important, become kind humans ready to make this world a better place!
My Project
Our classroom library has a big grey rug and 2 book shelves filled with fun exciting books to take kindergarteners on story filled adventures. We have several blue and green pillows to sit on while sharing a good book with a friend. We have plants and a cool moon lamp.
We need a kid sized library bench for my little learners to have another seating option while they are immersed in a good book.
The bench will serve both our classroom meeting rug area AND our classroom library area. Students will be able to sit facing either way, it is like a two for one magic piece of furniture.
My school is old and right between two downtown freeways. Our furniture could use replacing; we are lucky to have book shelves but this gorgeous book bench would be perfect for my students.
