My middle school students in fifth through eighth-grade love to utilize the library media center on a regular basis for sustained silent reading. It has been proven that daily reading improves student comprehension and overall academic performance across the curriculum. When visiting the library, students seek to be comfortable while reading, and our current seating options are outdated, uncomfortable, and in definite need of improvement.
Comfortable and flexible seating in the library media center is crucial for improved student reading stamina and focus.
If comfortable, students can read for longer periods of time with increased comprehension being the positive result. My hope is to increase the choices of comfortable seating in our library media center for my middle school students.
