This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is an amazing place to be, but my students have a lot of needs that are not met at home. That does not stop my students from being an energetic bunch of learners.
We have a very high level of English Language Learners who come to school every day ready to learn despite the challenges they face.
Our school is also 100% free or reduced lunches. Although my students may have these struggles, they come in daily ready to learn and grow.
My Project
Do you remember when you were in school, sitting in those hard chairs for hours upon hour? Well, in my classroom, I like my students to have options, and those hard chairs are a thing of the past. I allow my students to sit in our large windowsill, on the floor, or on our new carpet. The one thing that we are missing is pillows to support our backs. We are often slouched over and uncomfortable when sitting in these places.
Many of my students are very wiggly and like to move, so normal desks just don't work for them, comfortable pillows, with back support and arms for us to use, would work wonders on our posture to help us concentrate.
These 6 pillows will allow students to sit up straight and write, read, or do other work. Not only could they benefit during independent work, I could also pull small groups to sit at the pillows to confer and teach strategies to. We are nothing close to a traditional classroom, so giving students nontraditional options - like pillows, would be an amazing asset to the classroom.
