Comfort Makes All the Difference

Help me give my students the ability to have flexible seating in the room. By having a carpet we can do whole group lessons on the carpet.

My Students

My class is a self contained, special education 2nd grade classroom. My students have a variety of disabilities. We are in a low-income/high poverty school district located in New York.

I have a great group of students who enjoy learning and are learning how to read and write.

Having the right materials in the classroom makes all the difference to these children. They need to be inspired to want to learn. I try to find new ways to get my students excited to learn.

My students are learning how to read and write. They are also learning how to follow routines of a classroom and the rules in a classroom. Many of my students were learning virtually this past year and they are not having a difficult time following classroom routines.

My Project

My students have a difficult time sitting in their seats at their desks for long periods of time. We are working on learning how to sit and follow along during lessons. It is very hard to have whole group lessons when my students are sitting at their desks. They have a difficult time focusing. By having a class rug in front of the board we can all come together and learn on the carpet in a whole group. This way my students can share their ideas and have discussions as a class. My student will then be able to complete independent work at their desks. My students need to move around, so this helps run the class smoothly by having the ability to have different areas of learning in the class.
