it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am requesting support in creating a dedicated reading corner in my classroom that serves both academic and emotional needs. This space will be designed to foster a love for reading by providing students with a quiet, comfortable area where they can explore books at their own pace. To make this possible, I am seeking donations of high-interest books that cater to various reading levels and genres, encouraging both struggling and advanced readers to engage with literature in a meaningful and enjoyable way.
A comfortable physical environment is essential not only for encouraging students to settle into reading but also for showing them that reading can be a powerful way to relax and decompress.
In addition to books, I would like to request book bins and beanbags to help make the space welcoming and cozy. By associating reading with comfort and calm, I hope to nurture a positive, lifelong relationship with books while also supporting emotional balance.
Beyond literacy, this reading corner will also function as a calm-down area where students can go to regulate their emotions when they feel overwhelmed. The Hugimals are not only great reading buddies for students, but they can also help students who need comfort or something to hold when they are having a hard time. Having a designated space with soothing materials like the Hugimals and a peaceful atmosphere allows students to reset and return to learning more focused and emotionally ready. This dual-purpose space will reinforce the message that reading is not only educational but also therapeutic, helping students develop healthy habits around self-regulation and independent learning. Your support in bringing this vision to life would make a lasting difference in the lives of my students.
