This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

A comfortable classroom environment helps students take academic risks, feel more comfortable in the classroom, and feel calm even when dealing with stressful days.

My high school social studies students at DHS are bright, inquisitive, and eager to understand the complexities of our world.

They navigate the demands of high school while often juggling extracurriculars, part-time jobs, and personal responsibilities. They deserve a space that nurtures their growth and provides a sanctuary for focused learning and thoughtful discussion.

Currently, our classroom is a traditional space, functional but lacking the warmth and comfort that can truly unlock deeper engagement. The addition of classroom decor posters will transform our walls, oversize chairs will offer alternative seating options, whether for independent reading, small group work, or quiet reflection. The classroom area rug will define a cozy zone making the room feel more inviting. String lights and ivy wall decor will help create an atmosphere that reduces anxiety and promotes a more relaxed mindset. Finally, a new globe will be a central, tactile resource, making geography tangible and allowing students to visualize historical events enriching their understanding of human societies and their interactions across time and space.

The goal of this project is to create a classroom environment that fosters a sense of belonging, reduces stress, and actively supports diverse learning styles. By providing comfortable surroundings, we aim to empower students to take greater academic risks, engage more deeply with historical content, and develop a lasting appreciation for social studies. This cozy haven will encourage collaboration, critical thinking, and a love for learning that extends beyond our classroom walls.
