My Project

My students are part of a rural alternative school program, many of whom receive special education services. They are creative, determined, and capable of amazing things when given the right tools and environment. While their educational paths haven’t always been easy, they come to our classroom ready to try again — to grow, to problem-solve, and to prove to themselves that they can succeed.

This project will help transform our classroom into a clean, organized, and STEM-centered space where students can build confidence while building real-world skills.

The small computer desks will give students dedicated workspaces for tech, science, and engineering projects. Journals, sticky notes, pens, and highlighters will support their executive functioning and help them document learning in ways that work for their individual needs and IEP goals.

Essential hygiene items like hand soap, sanitizer, detergent, and disinfectant help us maintain a safe, respectful environment. Many students come to school without reliable access to these basics — but when they feel physically cared for, they’re more present, more focused, and more ready to engage.

Cabinet locks and a secure storage box protect classroom resources, reinforcing responsibility and structure. Pencil cases, folders, batteries, and copy paper might seem small, but they’re the glue that holds STEM projects together and keeps students organized day to day.

My goal is to create a space where students feel secure, valued, and capable of learning through hands-on exploration. With your support, we can meet both their academic and emotional needs — and show them that a future in STEM is possible, no matter where their journey began.
