Comfort and Collaboration in Our Classroom With Flexible Seating Choices
Help me give my students flexible seating so that they may work comfortably around our classroom. Flexible seating encourages collaboration amongst peers, improves communication and focus, increases engagement, builds problem-solving and emotional skills, and helps regulate sensory input.
My students are active, inquisitive, creative 9 and 10 year olds who prefer flexible seating to traditional seating. Flexible seating is where students have a variety of seating options in the classroom. Flexible seating provides students more autonomy by providing them options on where to sit and what to sit on. It increases engagement with students, collaboration, self-esteem, focus, sensory regulation, amongst many more benefits.
Can you imagine being a child and getting to choose where you sit and what you sit on in a classroom while learning and working?
That's the choice I want to provide my students. I want to give them the opportunity to work comfortably and be able to focus on academic content in a comfortable, nurturing environment.
My goal is for each of my current 44 fourth grade students to have a choice of flexible seating in our classroom. I want to ignite a love and passion for learning with the comfort of flexible seating, including these wobble stools and floor seats.
