My Students

My students are extremely resilient! We are in the process of overcoming Harvey. Many of my students are displaced from their homes and living in hotels. Our school is one of the only places where students have consistency right now, it's basically a home. Even without the devastation of Harvey, our school in an Acheive 180 campus and recently transitoned out of the IR (Improvement Required) status. We are also a Fine Arts Magnet school. We work hard everyday to provide them with the best education, despite their zip code. Our children have grit and love school.

My Project

The rug and books would significantly impact my students and improve their school lives but helping them be comfortable and nurishing their curiosity in reading material. My students are in need of books that are their level to practice, as well as interesting books to engage with during my read aloud. A huge part of getting students interested in learning is the ambiance of the room. Our current rug does not have a spot for everyone. It becomes an issue when students displaced from Harvey do not have a comfortable place at home or at school due to limited space. The rug I am requesting will ensure everyone has a cozy spot to get ready to learn.
