This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Help us build a warm and caring classroom community! My blended pre-kindergarteners are eager and energetic students, and having a warm, colorful and organized carpet area will help us build a community that is warm and comfortable, and make circle time learning more effective.
The enrollment at our school is range of cultures, backgrounds, experiences, challenges and abilities.
However, once through the doors, there is a real sense of community, mutual respect and friendship. Our school is located in a predominantly low-income neighborhood. Unfortunately, our school funding leaves little room for new items that would make our room more comfortable and welcoming.
My Project
Currently we sit on a cold hard tile floor. Imagine how focused you would be if all you could think about was how uncomfortable you were. When working together as a whole group, this requested rug will not only add color and comfort to our room, it will be a great management tool. For example: I might say, "Can everyone meet on the rug and sit on a letter of your choice?" The alphabet will promote letter recognition and
build literacy skills for my struggling learners.
Having a designated rug in a central meeting location will help the students feel secure and comfortable in our classroom.
Everyone will benefit from this project, especially my at-risk students who view school as their primary safe place to be.
