This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Most of my students do not have opportunities to learn computer skills that will be helpful in their future careers. This year I will have some students who are above-average learners so with them I will not need to spend much time working on the basics. Therefore, I want to be able to provide activities that will challenge their thinking and teach them new skills that they will use in the future.
I am asking for Coding Robots to introduce my students to skills that will help them be prepared for future jobs.
My plan is to have science centers at the end of the day and divide students into 4 or 5 groups. After I model an activity the groups will work to explore, create, tinker, etc. with the materials they are given. After a few weeks of introducing coding, I will begin to pull students for a guided activity based on our science curriculum. The activity I lead will include reading and writing about our science unit.
I hope I can get one or two volunteers to help the other students work with the robots or follow instructions on another science activity/exploration. I'm thinking to have students engage in one activity a day and rotate so that all students will be able to participate in all 4 or 5 activities each week.
I also work with the afterschool program so I may bring some of the activities to students from other classrooms if the conditions are appropriate.
