I teach in a low-income/high poverty school complex. My students are faced with multiple challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking forward to keeping things engaging and providing them with meaningful learning experiences.
My middle school students struggle to find their place in the world.
Most of them receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical".
If the opportunity to share the outside world is available to my students, I will help them see their options and see the world inside and outside of the community.
My Project
My students can make models in a 3-D printer and enhance their ability to be real-world ready. If there are opportunities that model real world labs, then I would like to show my students these labs.
If they get a 3-D printer science can come to life!
Students can make a model of their home, or an earthquake fault area and feel it in 3-D! Use of a 3-D printer can engage students and decrease behavior concerns!
Most of the time students will make a paper or clay model and not be very engaged in a task. With the increased use of 3-D printing in the news and world my students will not be left behind and can feel successful during the middle years.
