My students need a variety of healthy snacks to fill their bellies so they can focus on learning.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have been given the opportunity to teach the best group of little people imaginable. They are kind, generous, and appreciate the small things in life. They arrive each day with a smile, ready to show world the greatness inside of them.
These little people are absolutely amazing.
They face many challenges and hardships that would defeat any average person. One hundred percent of my students receive free lunch, English is a second language for the majority of my class, and many are facing extraordinary challenges at home. Some even experience periods of homelessness. My students are not average, however. They are extraordinary!
Despite the many challenges they face, they come to school ready and excited to learn! They come with open minds and open hearts and are the most remarkable and kindhearted people I have had the pleasure to know. This is shown day after day as they request extra time to work in place of recess, show excitement over every lesson or activity I plan, persevere to complete accurate work no matter how long it takes, and extend a helping hand to classmates when they need it.
My Project
Many of my students experience poverty throughout the school year. Some even experience being homeless at times. When this happens, the focus for the families becomes survival. When students are in survival mode, it makes learning difficult. How can they become engaged in a good book when their stomachs are growling and they don't know when their next meal will be?
One way I want to help is to provide nutritional and healthy snacks to those who need it.
This will help the immediate need of hunger to be eased so that the focus can shift back to learning. I plan to use the Ziploc bags to send home snack bags. This will help ensure that students who need it have access to some nutrition when they are not in my classroom.
