This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every year, my mom and I enjoy shopping for the "Back to School" deals for art supplies for my kindergarten class. These items include crayons, paint, and colored pencils, among other things. Unfortunately, it is difficult to find good deals or even a decent variety of multicultural art supplies at our local stores.

Part of kindergarten learning is to begin coloring people (and other things) the correct color, which can be very difficult when the typical box of crayons and colored pencils only comes with 1 brown.

Not to mention that particular brown doesn't really reflect the true color of one's skin. Even at the young age of 5 and 6 my kindergarteners see skin colors in the various hues and want to reflect that in their artwork. The funding of this project will enable them to create people as they truly see them, without arguing with one another over who gets the one brown or other flesh color available in their group crayon container.
