Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our kindergartners are a diverse group of learners, embarking on their first year of formal schooling. As they begin their educational journey, we want to provide them with an opportunity to explore their unique identities while also recognizing and celebrating the beauty in their differences and similarities. By introducing visual arts into the classroom, we aim to foster self-expression, build confidence, and create a deeper sense of community within our classroom.

The focus of this project will be the creation of self-portraits and sculptures.

Through the process, students will have the chance to express their individual personalities, backgrounds, and experiences while learning about each other’s cultures and perspectives. This artistic experience will encourage both creative thinking and social-emotional development.

The students will use the crayons and paper for drawing and sketching their self-portraits, and the crayons and markers for coloring and detailing their portraits. The glue will allow students to add texture, and the rhinestones will give them the opportunity to add beautiful frames around their portraits, adding dimension and flair. Finally, to challenge students' creativity, the model magic will give them the opportunity to create sculptures of themselves or symbolic objects that represent themselves.

Through this project, we hope to nurture a classroom environment where all students feel valued, heard, and celebrated. The student’s visual art pieces will be displayed in the classroom, creating a vibrant, inclusive space that honors the unique identities of each student.
