This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a span school, serving students in grades 6-12. We are in an urban neighborhood. Many of our students immigrated from another country or are the children of immigrants. Many of my students will be the first in their families to graduate from high school.

My students are college-bound, highly motivated, hard working and dream of success.

They are awesome! They are nearly all from lower socioeconomic status but have the endurance to make it to 12th grade and most aim to go to college and get a degree. They dream of becoming everything from doctors to teachers to lawyers and entrepreneurs.

My Project

I am requesting two boxes of paper because I just don't have enough. I used two boxes during the first semester, as well as a few extra reams from friends, and will definitely need two more boxes next semester. Paper will be used for worksheets, grade reports and so that students can print their essays. Also, I'm asking for a sweeper because I think it'll make cleaning my floors easier, and I often clean my own classroom floor. The sweeper will make it easier to pick dirt up off of the floor. I'm requesting tissue boxes because cold and flu season are upon us. Students need to blow their noses often and often use the tissues in my classroom instead of walking to the restroom and wasting valuable class time. Lastly, we always need pens and highlighters in my classroom. We use pens and highlighters when we are annotating texts. We annotate texts often since the move to Common Core.

These things will help my students succeed because having a clean floor and adequate supplies increases student morale.

Paper allows me to photo copy everything students need, especially important for visual learners, which many of my students are. Tissues allow kids to remain in class and learn despite a cold. Pens and highlighters will help them get their work done and to closely read texts.
