FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Ramsay's classroom raised $361
This project is fully funded
I work in a preschool classroom for children with autism spectrum disorders. My classroom is located on an isolated site with 5 classes that only serve children with special needs. Because we are a preschool site, we do not receive Title 1 or ADA funding because those programs do not assist preschools. However, because we are a special education site, we do not receive the funding that other preschool programs receive such as Head Start. This means that any "extras" we need in the classroom are not likely to be purchased by the school district and, in the end the teachers donate their own money to purchase these materials.
My special preschoolers need vibrant, hands-on materials that spark their interest and keep it! In our preschool, we explore colors, numbers and shapes but we struggle to find materials that are developmentally appropriate yet safe for our children with special needs. Materials provided by the school district are frankly dull and do not capture the attention of my students. These preschoolers cannot benefit from textbooks - instead, they need toys that are vibrantly colored, have a sensory element to them (soft, squishy, rough, etc.) and that fit just right into their little hands.
I have carefully selected the following age appropriate resources for my students: My First PegBoard Set, Count-A-Cookie Number Jars, My First Sorting Bears, Soft-and-Safe Color Pointers, Color Discovery Boxes, Shapes Discovery Boxes, and Magnetic Color Maze. With these materials I will be able to introduce a topic to my students, capture their interest, encourage them to explore it further, and maintain that interest across the entire lesson. The kids will be having so much fun, they won't know they're learning!
Your donation will make it possible for preschoolers with special needs to explore developmentally appropriate materials that are safe, fun,and stimulating to use. Thank you for supporting our classroom!
