Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach an inquisitive group of third graders in an inner-city public school in Arizona. With over 90% of our students receiving free or reduced rate lunch, one might think that our students are poor, but that would be far from the truth! What our children lack in money, they make up for in their curiosity and desire to learn! My room is the home for the gifted students at my grade level, and they have an insatiable appetite for information.

I have been told that as a teacher I help to create the future, but the truth is that the creative minds in my care hold the keys to greatness within them and they can change the world regardless of their socioeconomic status!

My Project

Children love games, and so do teachers because they help practice and cement learning of skills that have been taught. That is why I want to supplement my curriculum materials with games that I have created.

My students love engaging in fast-paced, brightly colored games with their peers.

It is always a joy to hear them engaged in learning and learning to cooperate and work together. Learning is effective when it is both fun and meaningful.

Creating games and classroom materials using colored ink on colored paper really makes the games more attractive to children. There is not, however, money for such materials in today's school budget.

In addition, I would like to start the year working on their positive attitudes, their willingness to take risks, and their self-esteem. The books I have added to this project, as well as the sticky notes, will be used to accomplish this! The books all have messages of perseverance and making mistakes, and I will make sticky notes containing positive messages to put up on the bulletin board for them to take as they wish!
