Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are diverse learners in a self contained K-2 special education classroom. Each child is a unique child with many wonderful qualities. Each child also requires an individualized learning experience to promote learning. The students entered a new classroom in a new school building in January. The students are visual learners and rely on a great deal of visual supports. Many of them are also non verbal and require additional resources to make learning beneficial and effective for them. Students that have verbal skills use visuals to make connections to their learning. Visuals also support their daily routines, help us to create individualized social stories and individualized learning for each student.
My Project
Our classroom needs a color printer with extra toner. Our students rely heavily on visual supports for success in the classroom. This includes visuals to support learning and comprehension for instructional tasks. It engages them and gets them motivated to learn. Our students also use visuals to communicate. The visuals help them to communicate their needs, wants, feelings, understanding of academic content and are also used for giving directions. A printer will provide color printing to make visual support for our students in order to create an effective routine as well as to help them communicate their needs and wants.
Having essential technology in the classroom will allow for interactive lessons and creation of materials in order to individualize learning and communication for all of our students.
These tools are essential for student success. Having these items available helps us increase motivation for learning and provide supports that are appealing and beneficial to all the students.
