This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
How do you make math come alive? Get the students to take charge and talk about the concepts themselves and present their findings to their classmates.
My students live in a city where poverty and violence are much to commonplace.
They come to our small charter school so that they will not get lost in the large, 2000 people local public high schools. Their parents have big dreams for their children, but they don't have the monetary resources. Over 90% of our students receive free lunch and come from families with no college experience.
My Project
With the new common core curriculum, the math world has become much larger and more interesting. Students will learn and discover mathematics in more ways than just worksheets. Students will tackle large problems as a group that will require creative thinking. Our students love to make posters as a way to show their work and summarize their finding. This process forces them to understand the math enough to explain it to others. My students need markers and paper to make presentations of their math ideas.
Students love to see their work displayed in the classroom.
With the pens and poster paper, our room will be filled with creative and colorful mathematics. Students will be inspired by seeing what they have accomplished visually.
