This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are enthusiastic English language learners. Many are the first in their families to attend high school, many are multilingual, and many work to help support their families. 100% receive free lunch. While our students face hurdles, our daily attendance rate is over 90%. They are enthusiastic about their learning and their opportunities for higher education!
Our students learn best when they engage in hands-on activities and make connections as they learn; however, we have limited resources and do not always have the means to provide for such valuable experiences.
My Project
My students need a color printer, high quality paper, and a mobile cart to use in all of their classrooms. In my class, they are using their knowledge of linear functions, systems of equations, and quadratic functions to create business plans. These plans will include various mathematical models including graphs, tables, and equations that will highlight the potential success of their business idea.
The students will create a professional style business plan that they will then present to a potential panel of investors.
In the process, they will strengthen their math knowledge, their communication skills, and will make valuable connections between classroom and real world applications.
