This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I serve the middle school students learning visual art in San Bernardino county. Three-fourths of our students are economically disadvantaged. We have our own counter-culture and feel to our community. The grunge desert road led to a quarry that set the backdrop on our inland plateau behind Southern California's sixty-five hundred-foot Bernardino mountain range art.

Students who struggle to participate in central tabletop craft and desk routines find their classroom connection to novel crafts like STEM toys, plastic maker printers, and rubber casting.

Art is the base station from which we deploy our exploration starting from paint, paper, and pencil, advancing beyond the ecosystem of self, social, environmental, and technical expression.

My Project

We are wearing masks every day. We get simple blue ones for all students but the students need color, play, enjoyment or excitement to add to the safety measures that keep our school running. This project includes hundreds of masks that will bring colorful joy with themes of paint, space, and rainbow.

Many students ask for gloves when we work in clay, glue, and slimy messes.

I lose a few students a day to their cleanliness demands. I want to avoid their non participation with abundant gloves, mask and smocks to offer. This project will keep us clean hygienically, artistically, and get some students back into the joy of engagement from our daily art class.

I regularly bring cereal for students but they have to eat outside. Gatorade energy chews are easy under the mask "healthy candy" that would help spread some cheer and "pick me up" power back into the students days.
