My Students
As a 2nd grade teacher at a Title I school, my students come from a variety of backgrounds with the majority of my class qualifying for free and reduced lunch. What makes our class so unique is that we are a melting pot of cultures in the classroom. We are respectful and tolerant of each other's differences. My students are readers who love to learn and read at every chance they get. They love anything that they can get their hands on and explore with. With that being said, I like to provide my students very engaging, hands-on, and interactive learning.
Even with the challenges that they face at home and in school, my students come with a smile on their face everyday, ready to learn.
My students have exhausted all of my teacher-made work stations, and I am in need of more challenging and engaging stations to get their brain juices flowing.
My Project
In this day and age, teachers have to compete with shiny new technology to hold their students' attention. These materials will go beyond the simple black and white teacher-created stations and grab their interest as they love to hold, read, and explore the materials that they are learning. This is evident by the task cards that I tape around my classroom. My students think it is so much fun to be able to walk around the classroom and work out problems as opposed to sitting in one spot.
Students learn best when they are able to collaborate and discuss their thoughts out loud with their peers.
Hearing a concept from someone other than the teacher really turns on the light bulb for my students. The resources that I have requested will allow my students to do just that.
