Colorful Creative Classroom Needs Supplies for 3D Expression
My students need a working warrantied printer, a steady supply of ink and a steady supply of paper. They also need clay to make tiles or pottery.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class full of vibrant artists prefer the part of the day which is devoted to art. My students express themselves through drawing, coloring, and painting with watercolors. They are highly curious and have indicated an interest in creating three dimensional works and pottery in class.
My class of special needs students in NYC is in need of various supplies to enhance learning!
The students are bilingual and in their prime teen years: ages 15 and 16 years old. They are beginning to hone-in on career development and transitional skills. All my students have disabilities, but each student is 100% unique from the next.
I use a standards-based curriculum program designed for students with disabilities which has students learn through 'doing'. For this reason, the online curriculum is paper heavy and in addition, half of my students cut and paste their answers rather than write. It would be truly wonderful if I could make the curriculum more accessible by having a donor fulfill our need for a printer, ink and other supplies. It also will be useful to have props, concrete objects and manipulatives related to the content close by. It is for these reasons that we need a printer, ink, a balance beam, and other supplies.
My Project
In exchange for printing capabilities and other listed services, we promise to create either: a tile project/mural demonstrating the transitional skills we have learned, and/or pottery that we will sell to raise money to help fund the arts in our school. I will use a workshop-model for collaborative art-making to show the students that with teamwork they can earn money in new, different ways. My tactile and kinesthetic learners will be thrilled to use the clay. Students will be able to create either tiles, coil built and/or pinch pots, or slab built pieces (using rolling pins). They will gain both fine and gross motor skills in this project. Students will follow sequence, as well as learn many important topics such as positive and negative space, contrast, personification, silhouette, color theory, ergonomics (form following function), functional vs. decorative, physical changes in the material at hand, portioning, and art marketing.
Please help them experience the joy of creativity.
At the end of the school year, I want my students to know that they can build upon their creativity just as they build upon their math skills, and that it is possible to make money doing so.
Clay is a raw and low-tech art form that allows all students to learn how to represent forms- enhancing creativity. Students will sell goods themselves, have adults sell on their behalf, or conduct internet sales. Thus, students will learn core skills as well as sales and marketing.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
