This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from many different parts of the world. We have at least seven different countries and languages represented in my class. Unfortunately, my students come from less affluent homes. Lots of my kids are refugees who come from war-torn countries. My students are eager to learn and they work hard every day to do their best.
Most of my students speak very little English and have never been to school before.
I also have my English-speaking students who sadly share the same socioeconomic background. We are located in a very low-income part of San Diego.
My Project
My students need a new rug in the classroom. Our current rug is stained, smelly, and old. I’ve often thought to myself that I wouldn’t want my own children sitting on our rug. It gets cleaned twice a year but the stains come right back up. I think my students deserve to have a clean place to sit while they learn. The rug I chose also keeps them in their own little square for Covid safety. Everyone deserves a clean learning environment. I just want my students to have the same opportunities and a clean classroom like every other student in the country.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
