I strive to create a warm, inviting, and comfortable environment for students to learn in ways that support collaboration and movement. In my 3rd grade classroom, students meet on the carpet multiple times throughout the day to remain focused and engaged.
Students thrive when their workplace is open, spacious, comfortable, and inviting.
Carpet time supports students’ academic and social-emotional skills. We begin each day on the carpet for the morning meeting. Throughout the day, the carpets are a meeting place for read-aloud, whole group instruction, small group instruction, playing math games, independent reading, and partner/group collaboration. Being restricted to their desks all day does not make children productive learners. These new carpets will be the heart of so much learning while providing each student with personal space and comfort.
