Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our students love to learn, they thrive when developing and applying new skills, and they are resilient. We are an urban, low-income district, and the majority of our students come from hardworking immigrant families, many of whom speak a language other than English at home. Every student has access to the books, resources, and opportunities in our elementary library media center, where they can explore topics that interest them and participate in learning experiences that motivate them!
Students have loved learning how to design in-print creations using our 3D Printer this year, and we are out of filament for printing their projects--these new colors will be a bright addition to our project space and will help students' creativity shine!
Our Library Makerspace provides opportunities for students to engage in hands-on discovery, invention, and understanding, as they apply and investigate scientific concepts and skills, address real-life problems with creative thinking, and use technology in innovative ways to solve problems. Students learn and apply the Engineering Design Process, as they work in groups to imagine new ideas, build models, investigate concepts, make discoveries, and develop their understandings.
During 3D Printing elective classes, students learn how to bring their ideas to life as 3D-printed models. They learn how to apply the design process of imagining, designing, creating, and revising to improve their design techniques, and they learn how to improve from mistakes and failures. Students learn how technology can be used to solve problems with creative solutions.
Our amazing library media center and maker space serve 2000+ students in four schools. As I continue to cultivate it into a 21st-century library media center and learning hub where students can collaborate and learn, I am constantly working to update the materials and resources that students have access to!
