Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
An artist once said, "The whole world, as we experience it visually, comes to us through the mystic realm of color." For my students, colored paper has a mysterious way of helping them stay organized, focused, and eager to learn.
My students attend an urban charter high school in Southern California and participate in the special education program.
They come with various learning differences such as visual or auditory processing deficits. However, all of my students are invested in their future success and have aspirations of becoming the leaders of their community.
My Project
We use colored paper in our classroom to mark important handouts and worksheets. For example, course calendars are always in bright yellow and are placed in the front of the binder. Project descriptions and rubrics are printed in blue for easy access. Important reference sheets and notes are printed in green so that these sheets will never get lost in the ever-growing stack of practice problems and homework assignments. With the severe budget cuts in California, materials are even harder to purchase, including colored paper! My students with special needs rely on colored paper to organize their binders and quickly access their notes.
My students are juniors and sophomores this year.
Both grades are critical years in high school and my students are ready to work hard and succeed. Please consider helping my students receive the accommodations and support they need by contributing to this project. Thank you so much!
