My Project
We are requesting funding to purchase a classroom set of high-quality markers for use in an upcoming art project titled "Portraits in Color: Telling Stories Through Line and Hue." This project focuses on self-portraiture and identity, allowing students to explore color theory, line work, and emotional expression using markers as the primary medium.
Currently, our marker supply is limited and aging, restricting both creative opportunities and the quality of students' work.
Your support would allow every student access to vibrant, long-lasting materials that bring their visions to life.
Markers are a versatile and accessible medium that appeal to students of all ages. Their ease of use and vibrant colors make them ideal for projects involving detailed work, color blending, and layering. We plan to launch a unit where students create expressive self-portraits that tell a personal story or reflect an important memory.
This project will teach color theory and emotional expression through art, encourage students to explore identity and storytelling visually, and help students develop fine motor skills and artistic technique using line and pattern.
Students will study artists such as Kehinde Wiley and Frida Kahlo, examining how color and composition convey meaning. Using new sets of markers, students will create a final portrait accompanied by a short written reflection.
