Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The goal of this grant request is to obtain a color printer and ink to help support my four and five-year old Transitional Kindergarteners.
These items can serve as visual aids to help provide a means of communication for my students who have minimal verbal skills and limited English language.
I serve a diverse class of 20 early childhood students with special needs, low language skills, speech delay, English language learners, and low income families. Many exhibit challenges with minimal verbal skills and limited English. The requested items in this grant will make it readily available to print visual supports to help facilitate better communication and engagement in the classroom.
Visual support, such as schedules, classroom signs, choice boards, and task cards can help students understand expectations and participate actively. The ability to produce visual materials can help students understand the flow of the day, follow steps necessary to successfully complete a self-care task, and learn the sequence of the routine and sustain attention. The colored photographs, symbols, objects, vocabulary pictures or even written words can help significantly increase their learning. With quick access to a color printer/ink, I can print resources, progress reports, lesson plans, labels, art, newsletters, educational posters, activity books, certificates, decals, stories for flannel boards, brochures, and photos to help maximize student learning in the classroom.
